The Legend of The Welsh Love
Spoons
The ancient custom of giving Lovespoons dates
back to the 17th century. According to Welsh folklore these ornately carved spoons were
traditionally made from a single piece of wood by a suitor for his loved one.
The Lovespoon originated from the"Cawl" (soup) spoon.
Decorative carvings were added. Each symbol has a special meaning.
Sailors carved Lovespoons during their long voyages to far off
lands.
Patterns and designs from various countries were incorporated,
and exotic
timbers were used.
Today Lovespoons are requested from all around the world.
they
are given for
engagements, weddings, christenings, and anniversaries-and as
souveniers from Wales.
These Lovespoons are carved from woods such as walnut,
limewood, yew or olive.
